Why Women Have Less.
Documentary Film
2025 · 35 min · AT

Poverty is female. Especially when unpaid care work, precarious employment, and low pensions come together. On average, women earn less, work part time more often, and carry the majority of care responsibilities, often at the expense of their own economic security.

The film gives voice to women living at or below the poverty line. Lisa Kröbmannsberger, a single mother of three, struggles through recurring financial hardship. Resi Moritz supplements her small pension by baking cakes in an intergenerational café, where she also experiences everyday solidarity. Anna Schiff, part of the platform Sichtbar Werden, confronts shame and silence around poverty and encourages other women to speak up.

The portraits are accompanied by social ethicist Michaela Moser. She shows that poverty is not an individual failure, but the result of political and social decisions. The film places women at the center who are often overlooked and asks what is needed to make participation and self determination possible, even under difficult conditions.
